Questões Interdisciplinares de Inglês

CESGRANRIO · 2010

Text 3 below is an extract from a series of comments (ipsis literature) made by a teacher in training for her Supervisor. Read it to answer the question.

Text 3

“I am very anxious all the time. I want to see results quickly…. (…) there are some colleagues that think they are superior and don’t get involved with the [kids]. And this… this makes me a little… I try to… I may make mistakes because I think that sometimes I am not playing my role as a teacher. … Sometimes, I am a mother and I think this may jeopardize teaching. I think I should keep a bit more of a distance but I can’t. So, I think this is where I am wrong. I wish I could improve…(…) my role as a teacher?...(…) Moments in which I see that a student did not do her homework (…) I call them, I talk to them and I ask them what is happening. I talk to each one. I try to raise their awareness. I would like to bring them to the coordinator’s room, but then I think… ‘talking to them might be better.’

The course book? Well, this is what I think: I think my student is intelligent, they can think… they have ideas from their daily lives, at home, talking to their parents and friends… so why should we be stuck on that one thing [the book] if they have so much experience to use. But the thing is that sometimes I cannot discipline myself to use the book. I would like to be the kind of person that follows the rules, but I can’t. …We have to use the book. (…) The way I work takes longer and sometimes I can’t catch up with my colleagues. We construct little by little. (…) I don’t know if I am right, but I would like to have some help. (…) I think you have to believe in the student, you have to believe that he has some background information. You have to use this. You have to make the student feel safe. So, look. Can you see the amount of [situations] that came out of their heads without the need for the book to be used… can you imagine? (…) So, we don’t need them to copy. I HATE copies because when I remember that my teachers… ‘Ok, a copy from the book!’ I wished I were dead every time I heard that.”

Comentário do professor

O enunciado evidencia uma postura centrada no aluno: a professora valoriza o conhecimento do aluno e as ideias trazidas de sua experiência pessoal, questionando o uso mecânico do livro (“we don’t need them to copy”, “I think you have to believe in the student”).
